Funding will allow the UWCA to expand partnerships and increase the capacity of 10 community development organizations across the state.

Washington

The Office of Congressman Artur Davis announces that the United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) will receive a grant of $973,584 from the Department of Health and Human Services as part of its Strengthening Communities Fund.
The UWCA has partnered with NeighborWorks, Gate Way, and One Economy to provide technical assistance, training, leadership, and guidance to ten yet to be chosen nonprofit organizations throughout the state. The sub-grant recipients will each receive $50,000 to enhance and expand services aimed to alleviate the economic distress of Alabama residents.
"United Way is working with non-profit and community organizations to expand financial services available to families struggling to get by," said John A. Langloh, President and CEO of United Way of Central Alabama. "This grant will help us build the capacity of our partners to provide services that include free tax preparation, mortgage foreclosure mitigation, financial education, and savings programs."
The grant is part of $46 million awarded to 84 nonprofit organizations nationwide by the Strengthening Communities Fund to promote the economic recovery of low income individuals. The fund was created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
